Dr. Mirna Nguyen
Passionate Orthodontist, Mom of Two and Life-Loving Wife
About Me
My name is Mirna Nguyen, and I grew up in Chicoutimi, a small French-speaking town in Canada, where I spent my childhood enjoying outdoor adventures like biking, hiking, skating and skiing. Inspired by my childhood fascination with California through movies and a desire to escape the cold and snow, I eventually made my way to sunny San Diego, where I have been practicing orthodontics since 2011.
Education & Experience
After earning my DMD (Doctoris Medicinae Dentariae; Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry) from the University of Montreal in 2006, I pursued further education in New York City, completing a two-year advanced general practice residency followed by a three-year orthodontic residency, specializing in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.
Over my ten years of post-college education, I successfully completed five general dental board examinations for the American and Canadian Dental Boards, as well as three specialty board examinations for the American Board of Orthodontics and the RCDC Fellowship (Royal College of Dental Specialists of Canada).
I am deeply committed to lifelong learning and have completed several sub-specialty fellowships, including orthognathic surgery, cleft lip and palate care, and the treatment of complex cases using clear aligners (Intensive Invisalign® Fellowship).
Continuing education and participating in dental missions have taken me around the world, allowing me to give back and gain invaluable experiences in countries like Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, South Africa and Portugal.
My Treatment Philosophy
I genuinely believe that orthodontics is about so much more than just straightening teeth. It is about serving the community, boosting confidence and enhancing the overall quality of life for the people we care for.
My treatment philosophy is to keep things simple, efficient and tailored to each patient’s unique needs to achieve beautiful, healthy-looking smiles.
I aim for excellent results using advanced technology and conservative techniques, avoiding extractions or surgeries whenever possible, while focusing on airway health and facial aesthetics.
Outside The Office
Outside of the office, I cherish spending time with my family and friends, who remind me that true happiness comes from life’s simple pleasures, like being with those we care about. Whether it is hiking, traveling or discovering something new, I am always seeking ways to add joy to everyday life.
