Dr. Henry recently invested in the latest 3D scanner technology. We now have the iTero Element scanner, the newest technology in Invisalign scanners! This will not only help us improve our services but also make the process more enjoyable for our Invisalign & even braces patients.

What makes it so special?
- Its 40% smaller and lighter (for our patients, this means that the wand that goes in the mouth is much less bulky and therefore more comfortable than the previous version’s wand)
- It captures the images at 6,000 frames per second and 20 times the speed of the previous scanner (for the patient, this means that the scans which used to take about 20 minutes can be done in about 3 minutes!!)
- The 3D High-Impact visualization gives a much more realistic picture of the teeth (for the patient, this means that you can see exactly what your teeth are going to look like at the end of treatment before committing to your treatment plan)
We are using this new scanner not only for our Invisalign patients, but also for many of our braces patients. If you don’t like goopy impressions, or you have a very strong gag reflex, rejoice! For many cases, we are using the 3D scan to set up the braces placement. This Digital Indirect Bonding System (DIBS), as it is called, promises to allow for more accurate initial bracket placement. For the patient, this means fewer repositionings of the brackets, which translates to shorter treatment times!
Our assistants like the new scanner so much that the old scanner, which we were going to keep as a back-up, hasn’t been touched since the new guy arrived! Anyone need a 4-year-old 3D scanner?
If you have any questions about the new scanner or digital orthodontics, just ask the next time you are in the office.
