What to Expect at Your Initial Visit
Before your consultation, we will give you a quick tour of the office, introduce you to some team members and take diagnostic records, including a 3D scan (please note this is not an X-ray), and possibly photographs and a panoramic X-ray. These records help us evaluate any orthodontic issues, determine if treatment is needed, recommend options and answer your questions. We encourage you to ask anything you would like during the visit.
This visit is also the time for us to listen to the specific concerns that you may have, so that we can ensure that our treatment plan addresses everything that is important to you.
During the initial examination for each patient, we will discuss the following questions:
- Is there a condition that orthodontics can address?
- If the patient is a child, is treatment needed now, or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption or other factors have occurred?
- What are the treatment options to correct the problem? Which one is the best option?
- What are the possible consequences of non-treatment?
- How long will treatment take?
- How much will the treatment cost, what are my payment options and does my insurance cover the treatment?
If the patient is a growing child and beginning treatment immediately is not recommended, we may suggest periodic visits so that we can monitor your child’s growth and development and ensure that permanent teeth are coming in at the right time, in the right position and in the right sequence. Simple monitoring and guidance of eruption can often prevent more complex problems, such as impacted teeth for instance.
We offer such visits at no charge, and with no obligation.
We will communicate the results of this visit with your family dentist, including the photographs, X-rays and recommended next steps, if any. However, if you prefer that the dentist not be informed, we will comply with your wishes.
Do I Need to Bring Anything with Me for My Consultation?
If you have dental insurance, please provide us with the details so we can offer an accurate estimate of your treatment cost.
If you have a recent panoramic X-ray, feel free to send it to us. Otherwise, we will gladly take one if necessary.
